“I Did Not Know That”
Body Mechanics 101
S.W.E.A.T. Pledges Restores Body Mechanics
Body mechanics rely on mood, routine, and a plan. Your mood displays your posture and your posture changes your mood. The longer you have a mood the more your posture cements into this mood. Whatever you practice, your body follows and then your mood follows. Serving others is the most rewarding thing on this planet. No drug, sex or experience will trump serving others chemically, mentally, spiritually and physically. God rigged it this way so we would work, move, poop, and eat and sleep well and have energy to serve and know Him more and more on this side of heaven.
Below are 12 S.W.E.A.T. Pledges Mike Rowe developed to help fill the skill gap in this country. What he might not know, these pledges REVIVE mood and posture by learning how to serve others.
12 S.W.E.A.T Pledges
1. Posture Follows Mood
Pledge 1: I believe that I have won the greatest lottery of all time. I am alive. I walk the Earth. I live in America. Above all things, I am grateful.
2. Practice Sober Thinking
There’s a reason God says to take thoughts captive. If you are always chasing something, someone or some event…your brain will send your body signals to breed hopeless chemicals to follow after a fantasy. This leads to depression and mood swings.
Creativity and reading books like the Bibble and Narnia provoke healthy chemicals.
Pledge 2: I believe that I am entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Nothing more. I also understand that “happiness” and the “pursuit of happiness” are not the same thing.
3. Start - Brain & Body Will Adapt
Pledge 3: I believe there is no such thing as a “bad job.” I believe that all jobs are opportunities, and it’s up to me to make the best of them.
4. Passions are Fleeting
Pledge 4: I do not “follow my passion.” I bring it with me. I believe that any job can be done with passion and enthusiasm.
5. Don't Go For Shiny Things
Reject pressure to keep up with the Jones. Do not go for shiny things, doing so will lead to money problems and cyclic stress.
A quick test question if you need something: Is this useful for me to be able to serve others better as soon as possible?
Pledge 5: I deplore debt, and do all I can to avoid it. I would rather live in a tent and eat beans than borrow money to pay for a lifestyle I can’t afford.
6. Think Before Action
Compulsively following the rules or majority numbs your brain and body connection.
Ask: Where is this action or practice taking me?
Pledge 6: I believe that my safety is my responsibility. I understand that being in “compliance” does not necessarily mean I’m out of danger.
7. Joy Heals the Body
Pledge 7: I believe the best way to distinguish myself at work is to show up early, stay late, and cheerfully volunteer for every crappy task there is.
8. Thankfulness Heals the Body
Pledge 8: I believe the most annoying sounds in the world are whining and complaining. I will never make them. If I am unhappy in my work, I will either find a new job, or find a way to be happy.
9. Learn & Grow
Whatever is provided for us every day is from God on purpose. Everything God provides, we crave. Don’t run away from it. Learn and grow.
Pledge 9: I believe that my education is my responsibility, and absolutely critical to my success. I am resolved to learn as much as I can from whatever source is available to me. I will never stop learning, and understand that library cards are free.
10. Move On from Memories
Change the subject from the past and future. Move on. The brain is blind, it just goes off memory.
If it is hard to move foward, come see us for a brain and body connection session. Sometimes the brain needs to be comfortable to move forward and that may take a trained therapist for bodywork to reset the nervous system.
Pledge 10: I believe that I am a product of my choices – not my circumstances. I will never blame anyone for my shortcomings or the challenges I face. And I will never accept the credit for something I didn’t do.
11. Contentment
If we want something we do not have or want to become something we are not, it grieves the Holy Spirit (God of the Bible) and puts us in “Fight or Flight.”
Stay in the love of Jesus also known as “Rest & Digest.”
Pledge 11: I understand the world is not fair, and I’m OK with that. I do not resent the success of others.
12. Work Benefits
Pledge 12: I believe that all people are created equal. I also believe that all people make choices. Some choose to be lazy. Some choose to sleep in. I choose to work my butt off.
